The Flyers and Lightning do battle from the St. Petes Times Forum in Tampa Bay as both teams look to continue their stellar play of late.
Philadelphia had as bad a start as they could have asked for this season which ultimately cost head coach Peter Laviolette his job but Philly has quietly started to turn their season around as they have just two regulation losses in their last 10 contests and have ripped off six wins in that stretch putting them just four points back of the Capitals for second place in the Metropolitan division. The Flyers do have the talent on their roster to not only make the playoffs but make a significant impact in the process but after last year’s let down and this season’s tough start it might be hard to motivate the black and orange to do so. Steve Mason is playing pretty well between the pipes and he gets the call here as he matches up against Ben Bishop who has been brilliant for Tampa Bay.

The Lightning have been mediocre since losing their best player in Steven Stamkos who went down with an ugly broken tibia a couple weeks back in Boston and they need to find a way to keep themselves afloat in the competitive Atlantic division. Tampa is coming off a nice win but they have to be more consistent in the offensive zone and find a source of secondary scoring beyond Martin St. Louis if they want to stay relevant in the Eastern Conference standings. Tampa Bay is sitting pretty right now thanks to their hot start but teams are starting to catch on and with the Flyers catching fire this game will be closer than most expect. While Philly has played poorly at times this season there is no way they should be this heavy of an under dog even if the Bolts had Stamkos in the lineup so I’ll take a shot with the well-paying road dog in this spot.
