The Sharks and Blues meet up in San Jose in a pivotal matchup between two of the best teams in the league.
The Blues head into the Shark Tank on Friday sitting two points up on the Sharks in the Western Conference standings and a single point back of the Chicago Blackhawks for the best mark in the NHL so you can be sure that this encounter will be very exciting. The Blues got the best of the Sharks in the last matchup between these two teams albeit in St. Louis where the Blues wree favoured and now the tables have turned as it is the Sharks who are the favourite in this one. The Blues are a very exciting team to watch as they have a nice balance of youth and experience and that mix of players seems to be working very well for head coach Ken Hitchcock who seems to do nothing but win since taking over behind the bench in St. Louis. The Blues have arguably the best goaltending tandem in the NHL with Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott manning the crease but it is the former who is logging starter’s minutes while the latter fills in on a needed basis. Halak is slated to get the start in this one as he goes head to head with Antii Niemi for the Sharks.

San Jose continues to be a model NHL franchise as they continuously enjoy regular season success and while that hasn’t translated into postseason success for some time the Sharks are itching to get over that hump and this finally could be the season they do it. San Jose is very deep down the middle, has a nice combination of young and old much like the Blues, and they to have a solid goaltender in Niemi who continues to be underrated despite having a Stanley Cup ring. The Sharks lost the last matchup these two teams faced off and while I am inclined to go with the Sharks here to rebound I just don’t think you can pass on the value the Blues are getting here as there are very few times you will catch them as an underdog. Tread lightly but take a shot with the Blues.
