After a bit of a rough stretch in the middle of the month it appears the Colorado Avalanche have rebounded nicely. The Avalanche have won four of their last five games and are coming off a victory over the Wild in Minnesota on Friday night. The two clubs will meet again on Saturday at the Pepsi Center in Denver. This Avalanche hockeyclub has been known in recent years as one who can put the puck in the net but wasn't able to stop anyone. During their recent stretch the club has shown that they can play some pretty good defense and they have a very good goaltender in Semyon Varlamov. The playoffs might be a different story for the Avalanche who are loaded with a ton of young kids that don't have any experience there, but for the rest of the regular season there's no reason to think this hockey club can't keep putting streaks together like this. Jan Hejda got the Avalanche on the board on Friday night with his third goal of the season and Nathan MacKinnon doulbed their lead with his fourth of the year in the second period. Dany Heatley would add his sixth of the season for Minnesota to cut the deficit in half Jean-Sebastien Giguere would hold the fort until Gabriel Landeskog's empty net goal sealed the 3-1 win. Giguere is now 6-0-0 in net this year serving as Varlamov's backup. For Minnesota it's all about trying to find a way to survive without Zach Parise. The Wild star injured his foot and is expected to be out for at least 2-3 weeks before he's able to return. Minnesota has gotten off to a pretty good start to the year but this is something that we saw last year from this club and they weren't able to keep it going. That might be the case again for Minnesota who still doesn't have the type of quality offensive depth to survive injuries and goal scoring droughts. Nicklas Backstrom and Josh Harding are a very solid one-two punch in net but if the Wild don't upgrade the offensive forward depth at some point it's going to come back to bite them.
