The Avs look to shake off an ugly loss in Edmonton last night as they were shelled by an 8-2 mark and now travel to Calgary to take on the Flames.

Colorado started the year as one of the best teams in the league but as we have seen from them in year’s past, a strong start doesn’t necessarily dictate a successful season and right now the Avs are trying to keep their head above water. Colorado was sloppy from start to finish against a divisional rival last night which won’t sit well with head coach Patrick Roy and you can be sure the team got an earful at the conclusion of last night’s affair. The beauty of the NHL schedule sometimes though is that team’s get to put those contests out of their mind in a hurry and that’s exactly what the Avs must do in Calgary tonight and they’ll look to rally around veteran backup JS Giguere who has yet to lose so far this season. Giggy will match up against Karri Ramo who has been playing a lot more of late after seemingly losing the starter’s role to Reto Berra earlier this season.

Calgary Flames vs. Colorado Avalanche - 12/6/13

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Flames are coming off a very impressive victory over the Phoenix Coyotes but they did catch them in a back to back after playing the Oilers which is the exact circumstance they face here with the Avs. Calgary rallied around the return of captain Mark Giordano who missed 18 contests with an injury and the rally cry seemed to be effective as the Flames played one of their most complete games of the season and they’ll be looking for more here in this one. While Calgary wasn’t expected to do much this season they’re playing a lot better than people thought and I think they’ll be a tough out every night as Bob Hartley has them playing with heart and I think that will carry them to some impressive wins this season. While I am not certain that the can get a win in this spot as the Avs should bounce back I think it will be a low scoring affair and as such taking the under seems to be the best play in this one.
