NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Oilers, the Blues, tonight's TV schedule and more
December 6, 2013
20 teams were out on the ice across the NHL last night, so it was a pretty busy evening for hockey fans. We’ll be dialing it back a bit this evening, but there are still a half-dozen games to look forward to. While we’re waiting on those pucks to drop, let’s take a closer look at some of the notable players and storylines happening across the league right now. Here’s the latest.
Chris Kunitz, LW, Pittsburgh Penguins: Kunitz has been on fire lately, and he continued his hot streak last night against the Sharks. He posted a pair of goals in the 5-1 victory, which gives him seven goals and six assists in just the last nine games. Also of note were Sidney Crosby (three assists) and Marc-Andre Fleury (45 saves).
Up next for the Penguins is a trip to Boston tomorrow. After that they’ll be at home again for their next game, which is Monday against the Blue Jackets.

Martin St. Louis, RW, Tampa Bay Lightning: After coming up empty over a three-game stretch, St. Louis was back at it against the Senators last night. He notched a pair of goals in the 3-1 win, which gives him 12 scores to go along with 14 helpers on the year.
The Lightning will host the Jets tomorrow night, then they’ll get a few days off before heading to DC to face the Capitals on Tuesday.
Derek Roy, C, St. Louis Blues: Roy has been peppering in the stats over the past several games, and it’s helped his team stay competitive. Last night, he notched a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win over the Islanders, which gives him two scores and six helpers in the last eight games. The Blues took the victory on the power play, with three of their goals coming that way.
Roy and company will be back in action tomorrow at home against Anaheim. After that, it’s a couple days’ rest before heading to Winnipeg Tuesday.
Taylor Hall, LW, Edmonton Oilers: Speaking of peppering in the points, Hall did that in a big way during the Oilers’ blowout of the Avalanche last night. He came up with a hat trick and an assist in the 8-2 victory, which means he has five scores and seven helpers over his last nine outings. Hall’s final score of the evening came with just 11 seconds left to play.
Let’s look at the Oilers’ upcoming future. They’ll host Calgary tomorrow night to finish off the week, then get back to it on Tuesday when the Hurricanes come to town. Their home-stand will conclude Thursday against the Bruins.
NHL Daily Schedule: Things around the league will be fairly busy this evening, as we've got 12 teams in action. Here's a look at the full schedule for tonight, along with the start times and TV networks carrying the games.
