The hapless Buffalo Sabres head into the Bell Center looking to end Montreal’s winning ways in what looks like a complete mismatch.
The Sabres are hands down one of if not the worst team in the league and at the moment are statistically in last place in the league standings with just 14 points through 29 games and aren’t showing any signs of improving. Buffalo was the victim last year of a new owner who got a little carried away with the money he was giving to some players who probably didn’t deserve it and after the plan backfired (surprise, surprise) he sent a lot of them packing and has been forced to rebuild as a result. The Sabres do have some young talent but they will be losing one of them in the form of Mikhail Grigorenko come Christmas time which could make things even worse. Ryan Miller has actually been playing decently well as he auditions for a new gig but against a tough Montreal team they could be in for a long evening.

The Canadiens had a strong season last year that they don’t get credit for because of their flop in the playoffs but this season they seem to be playing with a bit more of an edge and their victory against the Bruins earlier this week solidified their spot as a top end contender this year. Montreal may not have the flashiest roster but they have a ton of guys who can play very well and with Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec playing the way they are and PK Subban manning the back end I expect the Canadiens’ success to continue. However, there isn’t anyone in the league that has meant more to their team this season than Carey Price has between the pipes as he is the front runner for the Vezina Trophy at the moment and he has been absolutely brilliant between the pipes. While this may seem like a trap game I just don’t see the Sabres having enough to compete with a Montreal team on a roll right now so I suggest taking Montreal big or nothing at all.
