The New Jersey Devils got themselves one of the ugliest 4-3 victories I can remember a team having on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. New Jersey was lifeless for much of this game but after trailing 2-0 the Devils got a huge break and never looked back. Cam Janssen was credited with a goal that deflected off his skate and into the net to cut the lead in half, a play that was reviewed and upheld despite it being extremely close. New Jersey didn't do much to deserve the goal and they didn't do much after it but still found a way to win this hockey game. Jaromir Jagr made a strong play that resulted in the puck coming out in front to Travis Zajac who buried the loose puck to even things up at 2-2. Late in the third period it was Michael Ryder making a move at the blue line to undress Rangers defenseman John Moore and then beat Henrik Lundqvist to give the Devils the lead. New Jersey would allowing the tying goal with just a few second remaining with the Rangers on the power play but eventually won it on the power play in overtime. The Devils are facing a tough stretch here with so many games in such a short period of time and they aren't going to get a break any time soon. This is a big inter-division match up against the Blue Jackets who have been up and down all season.

Columbus looks like they're starting to play better hockey of late but the results aren't necessarily showing up on the ice. The Blue Jackets shut out the Lightning and Wild in back-to-back games but Sidney Crosby's third period goal on Monday night was enough to do them in against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Matt Calvert scored the only goal of the game for Columbus, coming with under a minute to play. Curtis McElhinney made 28 saves on the night but it wasn't enough as the punchless Columbus offense let him down in a 2-1 defeat. Monday night's match up with Pittsburgh started the first of a three game stretch against Metropolitan Division opponents, with the Devils and Rangers on the schedule next. If the Blue Jackets are going to get back in the playoff race these are the games that are of utmost importance to them the rest of the way.
