The losses just keep piling up for the New York Rangers and this nine game homestand has started off like a nightmare. Tuesday night the Nashville Predators came to town and took down New York by a score of 4-1. Just to rub a little salt in the wound the Rangers also lost their captain Ryan Callahan for 4-6 weeks with a sprained knee. Callahan hasn't been playing like himself lately but the loss still hurts in the leadership department for a club that is desperate for an identity at this point. Henrik Lundqvist also hasn't been himself this year and that's the biggest reason this hockey club has struggled as much as it has this year. It's the worst start of Lundqvist's career and there's no telling if it's the reduction in pad size this season or something else that is causing him problems but he needs to get it corrected or the Rangers are going no where.
Now the Rangers will host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night and they'll see a bunch of familiar faces that were part of a club that actually played solid hockey. The Blue Jackets have won four of their last five games and they're coming off a huge come from behind victory against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. Columbus trailed on a couple of occasions but kept battling until the end when Nick Foligno scored the game winner in the final two minutes. Brandon Dubinsky and Cam Atkinson scored second period goals to even the game at 3-3 with the Blue Jackets down by two. Columbus only had 23 shots on goal in the game but were extremely opportunistic with their chances. This is a game where just like on Tuesday night the Rangers are desperate for a win. Much like Tuesday night when we gave you the Predators as big underdogs, the situation hasn't changed for New York. The Rangers did nothing on Tuesday night to show that they're getting out of this malaise and the Blue Jackets have been playing some good hockey of late.
