NHL Hockey: Friday, December 13, 2013 at 9:00 pm (Rogers Arena)

The Line: Vancouver Canucks -191 / Edmonton Oilers +173 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

TV:

The Oilers play their second game in as many nights as they travel from Edmonton to Vancouver to play the Canucks just 24 hours after playing in a grudge match against the Bruins at home last night.

The Oilers play their second tough game in a row as they were outlasted by the rough and tough Boston Bruins in Edmonton last night and now have to head west to Vancouver to take on a Canucks team who is starting to find their stride. The Oilers and Canucks have one of the more underrated rivalries in the league as both teams have other hostilities that take priority but when these two Western Canada clubs meet up there is always fireworks and the last time they met in Vancouver was no different. Despite the loss last night the Oilers are playing their best hockey of the season at the moment as they have won 6 of 10 and are starting to climb back to respectability despite their basement position in the Western Conference. Devan Dubnyk is slated to get the start here for the visitors and he goes up against one of the game’s best in Roberto Luongo.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Edmonton Oilers - 12/13/13

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Spor

The Canucks were expected to be a much different team in John Tortorella as the former Rangers bench boss was expected to inject some physicality and hard work into a team that was considered pretty soft by many opponents and so far the new approach seems to be working. The Canucks have won five straight games and are climbing up the Pacific division standings but have to compete with the likes of Anaheim, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Jose and as such they find themselves in 5th place. However, if they continue to play like they are at the moment it won’t be too long before the Canucks find themselves back in the conversation of league powerhouse and perhaps fly under the radar come playoff time. This is a tight game to call as these games always seem to throw logic out the window but with the Canucks playing the way they are and the Oilers likely to be worn out after last night’s affair with the Bruins I will take my chances with the home team and knock a bit of juice off with a regulation play.
