Coming into the season it was clear that the biggest area of concern for the Calgary Flames was going to be in goal. That's an area that has let the Flames down at times this year but Calgary has really tried to focus on playing better defense in front of their netminder and have seen some good results as of late. The Flames have given up more than two goals just once in the last six games and Calgary is coming off a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes that saw Karri Ramo stop 29 shots and pick up his fifth win of the year. The new defensive mentality has affected the Flames offense but it's a trade off that this hockey club needs to make at this point in time. Playing together as a team and focusing on limiting their opponents chances needs to be the first priority of this hockey club if they're going to improve on their mediocre record. Calgary will get an opportunity to work on things further when they travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres. Buffalo is doing a better job themselves of keeping the puck out of their net and the Sabres come into this one after playing consecutive 2-1 games against the Ottawa Senators. After a victory on home ice the Sabres traveled to Ottawa fell to the Senators despite firing 41 shots on goal. Tyler Ennis scored his seventh goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 but the Sabres would be denied by Craig Anderson 17 times over the final 20 minutes in the loss. It was still a positive sign for Buffalo to see that much offense generated but this club doesn't have the talent to capitalize on a lot of those chances. This is a good opportunity for them to get a win on home ice when they take on a mediocre opponent who has to play an extremely early start for them. The fact that the Sabres are favored in this one says it all because they have not been a team that warrants being favored at any point this season.
