The Line: Ottawa Senators +143 / St. Louis Blues -157 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Blues head into Ottawa looking to keep their winning ways intact as they face off against the Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre.

The Blues continue to prove that they belong in the conversation of Stanley Cup favourites as they keep winning hockey games and after notching their third in as many games they have climbed into second place in the Central division. St. Louis is a very tough team to play against as they don’t have any noticeable weaknesses and they’re very good at altering their game plan to exploit their opponent’s weaknesses which has them out to a 22-6-3 start to the season. The Blues have tabbed Jaroslav Halak as their starting goaltender but it will be backup and former Senators starter Brian Elliott getting the call in this one as he looks to skate away victorious against his former team who has struggled mightily on home ice this season. The Blues are 9-4-3 on the road this season while the Senators are a paltry 6-9-3 at the Canadian Tire Centre which is among the league’s worst marks at home.

Ottawa Senators vs. St. Louis Blues - 12/16/13

Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

The Senators can’t seem to shake their inconsistent play this season as they seem to fall two steps back after step forward and as such find themselves a game under .500 and 14 points back of the division leading Bruins. Ottawa has had plenty to cheer about over the past two seasons as they played the role of spoiler and made the playoffs in both seasons after being projected to finish near the bottom of the conference but things appear to be different this year as it could be a lengthy offseason in the Canadian capital. Craig Anderson doesn’t seem to have the same sort of magic he has had over the last couple years and the Sens as a whole seem to be a bit lost without Daniel Alfredsson and against a Blues team who is playing so well I think it could be another long night for the red and black. St. Louis is a big road favourite here but the Sens never seem to play well against their former goaltenders and with Ben Bishop getting a win already this year I expect Elliott to follow suit as St. Louis cruises.
