Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals look to stay red hot as they head into Philadelphia to take on the underachieving Flyers.

The Capitals have had a rocky start to the 2013-14 season as they flopped out of the gates but have since looked very strong and are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games overall which has propelled them up the Eastern Conference standings and into second place in the Metro division. Washington is based largely around the personal success of Alex Ovechkin as the league leader in goals scored is a huge part of the team’s overall success and recently they have both been at the top of their game. Braden Holtby will tend goal for the Caps as he has emerged as the team’s number one option in the blue paint and while his chances of making the Canadian Olympic team seem to have fizzled out he is still a solid option between the pipes. Holtby will be seeking his 14th win of the year as he goes head to head with Steve Mason who has assumed the majority of the starts in Philly.

The Flyers continue to be one of the game’s biggest disappointments as a team with so much promise and talent continues to underachieve even in the lackluster Metropolitan division which quickly became the worst in hockey. The Flyers have a boat load of talent up front that rivals most of their opponent’s on any given night but their back end seems to be their down fall and goaltending is always an issue in Philadelphia as they haven’t had a reliable option in decades. Philly sits a game under .500 heading into tonight’s contest and is just 8-7 at home this season yet somehow they are slight favourites against a Capitals team who has just two regulation losses in their last 10 contests and seem to be on the rise. I understand that the home team should get the benefit of the doubt but in this circumstance to me I think that should bring the line to just about even instead of the home team getting the nod and as such I am siding with the visitors and the generous price.
