NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Canucks, tonight's TV schedule and more

See the Latest Odds

There were just two games on the NHL schedule yesterday, so it was a pretty slow day for hockey fans. That said, we’ll be getting back to business in a big way this evening, with a whopping 14 games on the schedule. While we’re waiting on those pucks to drop, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players out there and see what everyone’s up to. Here’s the latest.

Carl Hagelin, LW, New York Rangers: The Wild got out to a 1-0 lead on the Rangers yesterday, but it didn’t last long. New York scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 victory, with Hagelin notching the decisive score. He has three goals in his last four games. Also of note here was Derick Brassard, who notched a pair of assists.
Let’s take a look at the Rangers’ remaining games this week. They’ve got two left: tonight at home against Toronto and Friday on the road against the Capitals.

Roberto Luongo, G, Vancouver Canucks: The Canucks managed a solid 2-1 victory over the Jets yesterday, but it may have come with an unexpected--and heavy--price. Luongo was hurt at the 16:30 mark, the victim of a lower-body injury. He wasn’t able to return. As of right now, Luongo is being considered day-to-day, but that could change once the team gets a better evaluation.
If there’s good news here, it’s that the Canucks have some time to rest. Their next game is in Calgary on Dec. 29.

Current NHL Leaders: Since yesterday was a pretty slow day on the ice, it’s a good time to take a look at the current stats leaders in the NHL. We’re sure to be seeing plenty of changes from here on out, but for now here’s a snapshot of where the leader boards stand.

Points: Sidney Crosby, PIT (54)
Goals: Alex Ovechkin, WSH (30)
Assists: Sidney Crosby, PIT (34)
Plus-Minus: Francois Beauchemin, ANA (21)
GAA: Josh Harding, MIN (1.51)
Save %: Ben Scrivens, LAK (.941)
