NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on Zetterberg, tonight's TV schedule and more
December 27, 2013
After a painfully long holiday break, we’re getting our NHL action back this evening. The league will be kicking back into gear in the coming hours, so it’ll be a great way for us hockey fans to cap off the week. While we’re waiting on game-time, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players and injury situations out there right now. Here’s the latest.
Henrik Zetterberg, LW, Detroit Red Wings: We’ve been tracking Zetterberg’s progress in returning from his back injury for a while now, and it looks like we’re about to reach the conclusion of the story. By most accounts, he’s set to return tomorrow when the Red Wings take the ice against the Panthers and will provide an immediate boost to Detroit’s top line. He’s been out since Dec. 1.

Darren Helm, C, Detroit Red Wings: In a related item, the Red Wings are hoping to get Helm back for tomorrow’s game as well. His absence from a shoulder injury has been filled with false hope, as he’s been skating with the team for the past couple of weeks and has missed a couple of anticipated return dates. Helm has been out since Dec. 4 and has only been able to participate in 15 games so far.
Cody Franson, D, Toronto Maple Leafs: Franson has been battling injury on and off all season, which seems to be attributed to a nagging hip issue that’s been haunting him since camp. The joint reportedly “seizes up” when it’s acting up. He’s been able to play through it so far, but he’ll probably need an extended rest to completely get over the issue. Franson won’t get much time off until the Olympic break in February.
Eric Brewer, D, Tampa Bay Lightning: Good news on Brewer as well this morning. After missing out on Monday’s game against Florida due to an upper-body injury he sustained last Saturday, he’s expected to be back in the lineup for tomorrow against Montreal.
In 34 games so far this year, Brewer has seven assists and a plus-3 rating.
