The Line: Winnipeg Jets / Minnesota Wild --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Wild and Jets meet up at the MTS Centre in what is becoming an increasingly present and fierce rivalry between the two teams.
The Wild have had a nice start to the season as last year’s eighth place finishers in the Western Conference look well on their way to improving that standing if they can continue to play well in a very competitive division. Minnesota backed into the Christmas break as losers of three straight contests and perhaps no other team benefitted most from the three day layoff than the Wild who will look to get back on track just a few minutes from home at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. Minnesota has been as stingy as they come defensively this season and a large part of that has been the play of Josh Harding in goal and Ryan Suter on the blue line as the former Predators’ defenseman continues to carve out a niche with the Wild. While Harding continues to be sidelined as he battled symptoms of MS it will be Nik Backstrom manning the crease as he attempts to give his team a boost in the crease as he duels Ondrej Pavelec of the Jets.

Winnipeg has been the model of inconsistency this season as the franchise that is three years removed from its days in Atlanta is expecting big things come playoff time this year. The Jets are built for a playoff run now and with a fan base growing antsy and a management group not far behind the Jets need to have a spectacular second half if they want to get into the postseason but at this rate it doesn’t look like that will happen. Pavelec has been great some nights but will flop the next and the big game players that are expected to lead this team have been equally as frustrating with the entire recipe leading to frustration and aggravation in Winnipeg. This is a great opportunity for the Jets to come out fresh and take advantage of a team in turmoil at the moment and while I have been burned on a number of occasions by the Jets and we have made some nice scratch on the Wild this year my instinct are pointing towards a Jets win. Take Winnipeg at home.
