The Ducks and Coyotes clash in Anaheim in a battle of two Pacific division rivals who will look for a pivotal victory.
The Coyotes head into the Honda Center on Saturday night looking for a season shaping victory against the division leading Ducks just a night after losing a heartbreaker at home to the Sharks. Phoenix was right in the mix in the crazily competitive Pacific division at the quarter mark of the season but they are quietly slipping down the ladder and if they can’t right the ship soon they could find themselves in too deep of a hole to climb out of. Phoenix heads into tonight’s contest coming off back to back overtime losses and are 13 points back of the Ducks for the division lead which might seem insurmountable but Phoenix has been known to finish the season strong. Mike Smith is still in contention to land one of the three roster spots on the Canadian Olympic team but he knows he’ll have to put on a show in the next couple weeks and a statement victory against the Ducks could go a long way in doing so.

Anaheim has been ridiculous so far this season as they are 27-7-5 so far and sit just a single point back of the Hawks for top spot in the league but after tonight they could very well find themselves atop the league perch. The Ducks are a very deep team and are led up front by two huge bodies in Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry but they also have a ton of veteran experience who knows how to win in this league and that has made all the difference so far. While I still think the Ducks are an overrated bunch that will have its troubles in the postseason again they are playing very well at the moment and catch the Coyotes playing in a back to back after last night’s loss to the Sharks. I have had a rule of thumb betting the Coyotes over the past few years that has served me well and that is go the opposite way in which I think the game will go so if that’s the case I’d say take Phoenix. However, Anaheim matches up very well against them and I can’t see them dropping this one on home ice.
