The Predators welcome a former Western Conference foe, the Detroit Red Wings, to the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Monday night.
Detroit hopes to end a dreadful month of December with a win against a familiar opponent. The Red Wings injury report is a mile long, which is depicted in the team’s recent record. The Wings have been playing without Jimmy Howard, Darren Helm, Henrik Zetterberg, and Jonas Franzen among others. However, Jimmy Howard is scheduled to make his first start tonight after missing nearly three weeks with a sprained MCL. Although the Wings have gone just 3-5-2 in the last ten games, the team is starting to get healthy and has put together three wins in its last four games.

The Predators are coming off of a huge win against the Los Angeles Kings, a game that was as entertaining as they come in the final frame. The Kings’ Jeff Carter tied the game at two with under a minute remaining in the third period, but Mike Fisher gave Nashville the go-ahead goal and game winner just ten seconds later. Marek Mazanec, who is filling in for the injured Pekka Rinee, stopped 26 of 27 shots that he faced against the Kings. Nashville has dropped five of its last six overall, including home losses to Boston, Montreal, and Chicago.
Historically, when these two teams square off the under is a solid play, going 13-4-4 in the last 21, and 3-1-1 in the last seven in Nashville. However, set at just five goals, I would rather look to play a side. With the return Zetterberg last game, the Red Wings will begin putting the pieces together for a playoff push. Factor in the return of Howard and Helm this game, and I think the Wings will play with confidence and steal a victory in a tight game.
