The Anaheim Ducks take the Pacific division lead on the road to Nashville where the slumping Predators look to gain some momentum.
The Ducks have been one of the game’s best teams all season long and in the midst of their four game winning streak they have jumped into the lead for the President’s Trophy with hockey’s best record. Anaheim is a very deep squad that is built from the crease out and excels in every aspect of the game despite not having an outpour of superstar talent. Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry are surely the team’s top two players with the former in the running for the Art Ross and Hart Trophies but they do have a lot of secondary scoring threats and a stellar defensive unit. Anaheim is 32-8-5 so far this season and they’ll aim for the fifth win in a row in Nashville to take on a Predators team who has seen better days are are floating around the basement of the Central division. Jonas Hiller will likely get the start for the Ducks while Nashville will counter with either Carter Hutton or Marek Mazanec.

The Predators as mentioned a number of times so far this season are a shade of their former selves and haven’t been able to recover from their roster pillage that took place over the last two seasons. Ryan Suter is the biggest void the Predators have yet to fill and while their draft pick of Seth Jones addresses the need for another shut down defenseman it will take a couple of years before the American blue liner flourishes. The Preds were a team constantly in the mix in the Western Conference but this season they are likely to end up in the draft lottery once again which for general manager David Poile isn’t a bad thing. Nashville could also move some pieces at the trade deadline to unload some cap space in an attempt to sign a big free agent in the summer but anyway you look at it the Preds are simply in a bad spot this season. I have no idea how the Ducks are getting this price but we will quietly put our heads down and take it to the bank.
