The Hurricanes look for their sixth win in a row as they head from Raleigh to Columbus to take on the Blue Jackets.
The Hurricanes have finally made the statement that many hockey fans have been anticipating for the last season and a half and after last night’s win against the Maple Leafs that extended their winning streak to five it looks as though the Canes are back. Carolina made some moves in an attempt to make their team better over the past few seasons but while the potential was something to hang onto the fans were growing weary of a lack of production. Eric Staal has taken the team on his back over the last month or so as the Canes have skyrocketed up the Metropolitan division and will look to jump back into third place with a victory here against the Jackets. Justin Peters and Cam Ward have done a great job balancing the action in the Carolina crease and while the job is still Ward’s the coaching staff can feel confident to turn to Peters if need be. With Ward getting the call last night we are likely to see Peters take the reins here against the Jackets.

Columbus is a team that many projected to be a playoff contender this season after finishing last year sa one of the best second half teams in the league and laying claim to the best goaltender in the game as Sergei Bobrovsky won the Vezina. However, the Jackets sit in second to last place in the Metro division leading only the surging Islanders and are likely to miss out on the postseason once again unless they can replicate what they did last year and then some. Bobrovsky has had a tough time repeating his performance from a year ago but a lot of that falls on the team playing in front of him as well as they haven’t been able to generate the same magic they found in the early parts of 2013 and I think they will need to make some moves in the offseason to improve their club. I have no idea how or why the Canes are underdogs in this game as they are the better team and have won five games in a row but I will take them at this price against the Jackets any day of the week.
