The Stars look to snap their ugly four game losing skid when they head to Broadway on Friday night to take on the surging Rangers.
The Stars have been a borderline playoff team all season long and after the way they finished last year their effort through the first half of the season was considered an improvement until now. The Stars have dropped four straight contests and have slipped into fifth place in the Central division and are 20 points back of the division leading Blues. While a shot at the President’s Trophy is certainly out of the question the Stars can still right the ship and challenge for one of the final playoff spots in the Western Conference but Jamie Benn and the boys know they need to start winning now. The Stars have played decently well away from home and have a great chance to upend the Rangers as Henrik Lundqvist has had a bit of a disappointing season and the Blue Shirts have a sub .500 record with an 8-10-3 mark at Madison Square Garden.

The Rangers have had a bit of a disappointing campaign after being a perennial Eastern Conference favourite for the last handful of seasons but they have played much better of late and are right in the mix in the Metropolitan division logjam. The Rangers currently sit in fifth in the division but are just three points back of the Flyers for second spot and are stuck in the tightest race in the league with seven teams separated by 11 points. Alain Vigneault has brought a different style of play to the Big Apple and while it hasn’t generated the success many thought it would at this point his resume speaks for itself and he is a proven winner in this league. This is a tough game to call as the teams are pretty evenly matched and the law of averages would suggest taking the Stars as they have been brutal of late. However, I like New York here as I think they show up for one of the few times all year at MSG and give the faithful fans something to cheer about.
