TV:

With nine games on the schedule, things were pretty active around the NHL last night. We’ll be getting six more matchups this evening, so it should provide a nice transition into the weekend for hockey fans. While we’re waiting on tonight’s games, let’s take a look at some of the noteworthy happenings and players out there and see what everyone’s up to.

Jordan Staal, C, Carolina Hurricanes: The ‘Canes have won five straight, and it seems like they’re finally getting their issues worked out. Staal was a big contributor in the team’s big 6-1 blowout last night against the Maple Leafs, logging a goal and three assists. He now has 10 scores and 14 helpers on the year.
Carolina will get right back to action tonight in Columbus to try and keep their streak going. After that it’s a pretty light week, with just two home games (Calgary Monday and Florida Saturday) on the schedule.

Nicklas Backstrom, C, Washington Capitals: In a back and forth game that was in doubt until the final minute, the Capitals took a big win over the Lightning last night. Backstrom notched another assist in the 4-3 victory, giving him 37 on the season. Also of note was Eric Fehr, who tallied a pair of goals, including the game-winner.
The Capitals are at home against the Maple Leafs tonight, then they’ve got four matchups set for next week. That starts Sunday at home against Buffalo.

Jaroslav Halak, G, St. Louis Blues: It’s been a while since we’ve seen Halak out on the ice (December 28, to be exact), but he looked no worse for the wear last night against the Flames. He made 33 saves in a dominating shutout, and the Blues emerged victorious 5-0. Offensively, Vladimir Tarasenko continued his run of strong play, with a goal and an assist.
The Blues will finish off their Canadian road swing this evening in Vancouver. After that, they’ll pick back up again at home on Tuesday against the incoming Coyotes.

Joe Pavelski, C, San Jose Sharks: Pavelski has been on quite a tear recently, and his excellent play continued last night against the Red Wings. He posted a pair of goals in the 4-1 win, which gives him eight scores in his last 10 games overall. Pavelski has 21 goals to go along with his 22 assists on the season.
The Sharks will finish off their busy week tomorrow against Boston. They’ll resume play on Tuesday, starting out another road trip in DC.

NHL Daily Schedule: 12 teams will be out on the ice tonight, so there should be at least a couple good matchups on the way. Here’s a look at the full schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying the games.
