At 34-8-5 the Anaheim Ducks and head coach Brue Boudreau are off to outstanding start this season. The Ducks have been head and shoulders above most of the competition they've faced this year and they look like one of the teams that can take down the Chicago Blackhawks in a Western Conference playoff series. Anaheim lost just one time in regulation during the month of December and currently they're on a six game winning streak. During the six game streak the Ducks haven't scored less than four goals in a game. Saturday night in Phoenix they got three goals in the second period that helped change the game. Sami Vatanen broke a 1-1 tie with his fith goal of the season and Dustin Penner and Ryan Getzlaf also scored as the Ducks went on to a 5-3 victory. Hampus Lindholm also added two goals in the game and Jonas HIller made 28 saves to pick up his 22nd victory of the season. When you get past the big names in Anaheim's lineup it's hard to understand how they're so good unless you watch them on a regular basis. The Ducks have tons of players who understand their roles and don't try to do too much. It's something that a lot of teams forget about and it's really helping Anaheim dominate this season. Detroit comes to town on Sunday night and for the Red Wings their transfer to the Eastern Conference hasn't been as smooth as they would have hoped. Detroit has really struggled to get on any sort of run this year and they're in the midst of another one of their win one, lose one type of streaks. Saturday night in Los Angeles they got back on the winning side of things against Jonathan Quick and the Kings. Jimmy Howard has been spotty at best for the Red Wings lately but in this game he was the key in the 3-1 victory. Howard made 44 saves in the game and made Tomas Tatar's third period goal stand up as the game winner. The Red Wings trailed 1-0 in the first period but Riley Sheahan's first goal of the year evened the score. The game remained tied at 1-1 until Tatar scored to break the tie. Danny Cleary added his fourth goal of the game just over five minutes later to seal the win. It will be hard for Detroit to get out of the Honda Center alive if they allow the Ducks to pummel them with shots the way the Kings did. Howard is a real difference maker for this club and we saw it last night with him making some incredible saves and really giving them a chance to win. No matter who is in net for the Red Wings in this one they're going to be tested by a well oiled machine and they better be ready to give their best effort.
