NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Penguins, Jackets, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
January 12, 2014
Yesterday was a pretty busy one in the NHL, and we’re going to follow that up with another seven games today. That means there’s plenty to talk about this morning, so let’s take our daily look across the league and see who’s making headlines out there. Here’s the latest.
Valtteri Filppula, C, Tampa Bay Lightning: Filppula kept his hot streak going yesterday, and helped the Lightning finish 2-2 on the week. He posted a goal and an assist in his team’s 6-3 victory in Philadelphia, which gives him 18 scores and 18 helpers on the season so far. Filppula now has 12 points in an 11-game span.
Next up for the Lightning is a two-game road trip in the early part of the week. They’ll be in Columbus tomorrow and New York (Rangers) on Tuesday.

Mark Letestu, C, Columbus Blue Jackets: After a bad first period that left them trailing 0-1 to the Jets, the Jackets found some life last night. They’d ultimately take the game in decisive fashion 6-3, a number aided greatly by Letestu’s two goals. He now has three scores and an assist in his last four games and 18 points on the season so far.
Next up for Columbus is a home game against the Lightning tomorrow, then another against the Capitals on Friday before they head to Buffalo Saturday.
Mathieu Perreault, C, Anaheim Ducks: Perreault has been pretty effective over the last few games. His strong play continued last night against the Coyotes, when he notched three assists in a 5-3 win. That gives him six points in just his last three games. Hampus Lindholm also pitched in offensively, notching a pair of goals for the Ducks.
Anaheim will be back out there today as their busy stretch continues. They’ll face Detroit at home, then get two days off before hosting Vancouver on Wednesday.
Chris Kunitz, LW, Pittsburgh Penguins: Kunitz continued his solid run last night against the Flames. He registered an early goal, and Pittsburgh would hold on to take the victory 2-1. Over the last 10 games, Kunitz has eight assists and four goals, which helped the Penguins finish off the week at 3-1.
After their busy seven-day stretch, Pittsburgh will get a bit of a respite this week. They’ll host Washington on Wednesday for their only game.
