The Maple Leafs look for their third win in a row and climb back up the Atlantic division standings with a victory at home against the Sabres.

Buffalo has already packed things in this season and is looking towards the future but that hasn’t stopped them from turning up their play of late and despite losing last night at home against the Flyers they have been very competitive in the last two weeks.  Ryan Miller is certainly still one of the bets goalies in the league and with his play for an otherwise lackluster Sabres team he is definitely the leading candidate to land the starter’s job in Sochi for the United States Olympic team. Buffalo may be in the basement in the league standings but in my opinion aren’t the worst team in the league and if things can fall into place for them in the offseason I think they could rebound quickly instead of undergoing a massive overhaul. The Sabres typically play the Leafs very tough and have already scored two victories against their division rivals this year with one of them being at the Air Canada Centre.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Buffalo Sabres - 1/15/14

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sport

The Maple Leafs exacted some revenge on Tuesday night as they skated out of the TD Garden with a much deserved victory which had to have alleviated some of the misery from last year’s playoff collapse. Toronto was in the midst of their ugliest skid of the season that was lowlighted by a 6-1 thumping on the road against the Carolina Hurricanes but since then the Leafs have rallied and while they haven’t reached the level they need to be at for a playoff push they are well on their way. Jonathan Bernier seems to be at his best when he is getting peppered with shots and that’s exactly what happened last night but the former Kings goalie stood on his head and was a huge contributor in Toronto’s statement victory over their Original Six foes. James Reimer will have a shot at redemption tonight as he is likely to get the start and while Miller gives the Sabres the edge in the crease and these teams usually play each other tight I don’t like this spot for the lowly Sabres. The Buds are playing with an edge right now and I don’t think it stops with a win on the road in Boston and I see them making quick work of the Sabres in this one.
