NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Blackhawks, Jackets, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
January 18, 2014
After a quiet night in the NHL last night (just two games), the league schedule will be exploding today with 13 matchups on the slate. Before we get settled in and wait for those pucks to drop, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players and situations making headlines this morning. Here’s the latest.
Sergei Bobrovsky, G, Columbus Blue Jackets: It takes guts to stand between the pipes against Alex Ovechkin, but Bobrovsky did it last night and performed very well. He allowed just one goal on 27 shots in a 5-1 Jackets victory, giving him four straight wins in the new year. On the season thus far, Bobrovsky is 14-11-2, which is off his pace from last season.
The Jackets will get right back to it today as they head to Buffalo to take on the Sabres. After that it’s a trio of home games next week.

Marian Hossa, RW, Chicago Blackhawks: With all due respect to the Jackets and the Capitals, this is the game everyone wanted to see. Hossa and the Hawks did the seemingly impossible last night by stopping the Ducks’ eight-game win streak. For his part, Hossa notched a pair of goals in the eventual 5-2 Chicago win, giving him five scores to go with two assists in his last seven outings.
The Blackhawks have another three-game week coming up. They’ll host Boston tomorrow, then head to Detroit Wednesday and Minnesota on Thursday.
NHL Statistical Leaders: Since we’re coming off a pretty thin night schedule-wise, now seems like a good time to take a look at the current leaders in some of the key statistical categories in the NHL. We’ll be seeing plenty of changes in these numbers before the season is over, but for now, here’s a quick snapshot.

Goals: Alex Ovechkin, WSH (34)
Assists: Joe Thornton, SJS (45)
