In the first of two games this season, the New Jersey Devils travel across the country to visit the Phoenix Coyotes at the Jobing.com Arena.
On Saturday night, the Devils will look to get back to even on the current road trip. New Jersey has dropped two of three on this trip, both losses coming in a shootout. On Thursday, the Colorado Avalanche became the most recent shootout victor against the Devils. Colorado got out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Devils’ Andrei Loktionov knotted the score at one in the third. However, the New Jersey shooters were unable to score on Semyon Varlamov. The Devils are getting great goaltending regardless of who Peter DeBoer decides will get the nod. In the last six games, Cory Schneider and Martin Brodeur have allowed a mere seven goals in regulation.

The Coyotes are coming into this game after a 1-0 home win over the Vancouver Canucks. A quality win, but the Canucks have not been able to capitalize on scoring chances this season, so the Yotes escaped with a victory despite being outshot and only putting one past Eddie Lack. Prior to the win over Vancouver, the Coyotes lost four straight games and averaged less than two goals per game over that four game stretch. Phoenix is still on the outskirts of the playoffs in the Western Conference, currently sitting in ninth, but the team is healthy for the home stretch and will undoubtedly look to make a run for the final spot.
Phoenix is just 3-6-1 in the last ten games, while New Jersey is 5-2-3 over the same span. The home team is 4-0 in the last four games between these two teams, and New Jersey is just 1-5 in the last five meetings in Phoenix. Following this game New Jersey heads back home, and I usually look to fade a team on the last game of a road trip. I also think that Phoenix is the better team, although it is extremely close, but I like the Coyotes at home here.
I think the under is a sold play as well. The under is 3-0-1 in the last four Coyotes games following a win, and the under has hit in the last two Phoenix games overall. The under is 3-0-2 in the last five New Jersey road contests, 4-0-2 in the last six versus a team with a losing record, and the total has been five or less in nine of the last ten Devils games.
