The Philadelphia Flyers make the trip north to take the ice with the New York Islanders in game two of a home and home set.
Philadelphia has enjoyed a great deal of success against the Islanders through the years and that trend continued in a 6-4 decision over their division rivals on Saturday. A three goal third period erased a 4-3 deficit as the Philly offense overcame poor defense and took goalie Steve Mason off the hook. Mason gave up four goals on 24 shots before having a seat on the bench with Ray Emery coming on to get the win with five saves in relief. Andrej Meszaros led the attack with a pair of tallies with Matt Read, Adam Hall, Michael Raffl and Jakub Voracek also finding the back of the net.

New York appeared on their way to their to their eighth win in ten contests behind strong scoring before the defensive end of the ice struggled late. Kevin Poulin absorbed the defeat in a shaky performance with five goals allowed although the guys in front of him deserve plenty of blame as well. Things started off well enough for the Islanders who received goals from John Tavares and Cal Clutterback to jump in front 2-0 in the first only to watch Philly tie it. The Isles got second period tallies from Brian Strait and Brock Nelson to take a 4-3 lead in to the final stanza only to watch the defense cough it up.
The trends are stacked in favor of Philadelphia with the Flyers going 25-7-1 in their past 33 visits to New York while going 39-13 in the past 52 meetings. There are no guarantees here but Philadelphia as a dog isn't a stretch if we see better defense and goaltending. Of course the Islanders defense and netminding also has to improve or this could be another track meet. For now I'm looking at the better odds...
