NHL Hockey: Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 7:00 pm (Verizon Center)

The Line: Washington Capitals -136 / Ottawa Senators +124 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Senators look to get back in the win column on Tuesday as they head to Washington to face the Capitals at the Verizon Center.

Ottawa heads into Washington on Tuesday night looking to avenge a loss in their last outing but otherwise can remain one of the game’s hottest teams as they go for their seventh win in their last 10 attempts. The Senators started the season in a rut as it was apparent that they weren’t going to be able to overcome their offseason loss of Daniel Alfredsson but after a few speed bumps it looks like Ottawa is on the rise. The Sens were sloppy in their last outing against the Rangers at the Canadian Tire Center but have a great shot at climbing back into the playoff picture as they take on the struggling Washington Capitals who dropped a 4-1 decision to the New York Rangers on Sunday. Craig Anderson is slated to get the call for the Sens between the pipes as he goes up against Braden Holtby who was rested for Washington’s loss to the Blue Shirts.

Washington Capitals vs. Ottawa Senators - 1/21/14

The Capitals at one point were making a mockery out of the bottom feeders in the Metropolitan division as they found themselves trailing only the Penguins for the division perch while the rest were light years behind. Fast forward a month and the Caps are now in crowded company as they have slipped down to fifth in the division and are in the leagues most compacted race with only 10 points separating second from eighth. Washington’s struggles have been well publicized as they have dropped three straight games and with the Senators on tap for Tuesday night things don’t get any easier as Ottawa is competing for a playoff spot as well and trail the Caps by just a single point in the East. Braden Holtby will hope to spark his team to victory but to be honest I think the Sens hold the goaltending advantage with Anderson getting the call and while I’d be more comfortable with Robin Lehner in goal for Ottawa I am happy getting value with a Sens team who to me is the better team overall.
