The Capitals and Canadiens do battle in Montreal as both teams look to shake off ugly losing skids on Saturday.
The Capitals head into the Bell Centre on Saturday looking to end a sloppy five game losing skid that has dropped them into seventh place in the Metropolitan division and out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Caps were expected to do some damage in the East this season and were in discussions of division favourites along with the Pittsburgh Penguins but so far the Pens have held up their end of the bargain but the Caps sit 22 points back of their division leading rivals. Washington is a tough team to figure out as they certain still have some talent and looked as though they had reversed their fortunes when they brought in Adam Oates but things have gotten worse and it must sting to see former coach Bruce Boudreau enjoying so much success in Anaheim. Braden Holtby is expected to get the start for the Caps as he goes up against either Carey Price or Petr Budaj.

The Canadiens return home after dropping their third straight contest last night against the shorthanded Detroit Red Wings and are hoping that some home cooking will get them back in the win column. Montreal was hot on the heels of the Bruins and Lightning for the top two spots in the division but thanks to their losing ways the Leafs, Wings, and Sens are now within striking distance of that automatic third playoff spot. The Habs head back to the Bell Centre where they are six games above the .500 mark and catch a Washington team who has been dreadful of late and are fading fast in the Eastern Conference. While I am not the biggest fan of the Canadiens as an objective viewer of their talent level I do think they are a better team than the Capitals and playing at home should give them an edge over a team who can’t seem to win anywhere but the line in this one will be determined on whether Price or Budaj starts. To be honest I think the Canadiens win either way so waiting on the value might be a good idea but I think Montreal rebounds and hands the Caps a seventh straight defeat.
