New Jersey and St. Louis will meet for the second and final time this season. The Devils won the previous matchup a week ago 7-1, giving the Blues their only loss in their last four contests.
Besides that one victory, the Devils keep finding it difficult to come away with wins. They were manhandled by the New York Rangers (7-3) in the matchup that took place in Yankee Stadium. Goalie Martin Brodeur has now allowed 18 goals in just five starts in the month of January. When you factor in that New Jersey is one of the worst scoring teams in the league, that type of goaltending simply isn’t going to get it done against anybody.

St. Louis continues to prove its one of the best teams in hockey, but it has cooled off a bit, winning just three of its last six games. From the 3.4 goals per game, 2.3 goals allowed and 23.6 power play percentage, the Blues are a tough team to beat any night, especially in the Scottrade Center where they hold an 18-5-2 record this season.
However, you can’t just look at the records in this game.
Besides a couple of bumps in the road, New Jersey has been playing decent hockey as of late. Even three of its last five losses were taken to either overtime or a shootout. It’s also killed 17 of its last 18 power play attempts. Just a couple of bounces here or there and the Devils would be entering this game rather hot. Not to mention they just creamed St. Louis a week ago.
The Devils are 4-1 in their last five meetings in St. Louis, and the road team has won six of the last eight meetings.
Believe it or not, there’s plenty of value with this pick.
Give me the road underdog.
