Joe Louis Arena will be the site of the visiting Washington Capitals versus the Detroit Red Wings in a battle of two teams that must pull things together in order to stay in the Eastern Conference playoff hunt.
The Washington Capitals will be playing without a day of rest as they head into Detroit. On Thursday, the Caps visited the Columbus Blue Jackets and came up short in a 5-2 loss. The Jackets jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back. The loss snapped a two game winning streak that saw Washington score ten goals. Washington is now just 2-6-2 in the last ten games.

Detroit will look to improve on a subpar home record this season, which has been a constant of past Red Wings teams. The Wings head back to Joe Louis after a terrible outing against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday. The Flyers stuck it to the Wings in a game where Detroit never could break Steve Mason, who made 33 saves in the 5-0 Philly win. The loss marked the second consecutive for the Red Wings, who are now 4-5-1 in the last ten games.
This game will be the first of a home-and-home series, which means there will be emphasis for Detroit to pick up a win in the first game. The Wings will also look to get revenge for a game back in November where Washington stole a victory in a shootout at Joe Louis.
The Caps are 4-1 in the last five meetings, but the home team is 6-2 in the last eight meetings. The Caps are playing on a back-to-back and it will be the third game in four nights for the club. The price is not fantastic here, but I think the Red Wings cash the ticket.
