The Buffalo Sabres look to play spoiler in Mile High on Saturday as they travel to Denver to take on the Avalanche.

The Sabres head into Colorado on Saturday looking for their second straight victory and halt Colorado’s winning ways in the process but if they’re going to do so they know they’ll have to play a very sound game in the offensive zone. It is no secret the Sabres are in the midst of a disappointing campaign but also as transparent they’re in the midst of a massive overhaul as a number of long term pieces have left town and more are likely to come. Despite having a lackluster squad playing in front of him, Ryan Miller has been exceptional in the Buffalo crease and with his future with the team up in the air and his pending free agency likely resulting in him leaving town it’ll be interesting to see if he finishes the year in Buffalo. Nonetheless, the Sabres will look to send the AVs to just their third loss in their last 10 games but they won’t go down lightly especially at home.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Buffalo Sabres - 2/1/14

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Avalanche, much like the Lightning in the Eastern Conference, have been the surprise team out West this season as they went from dead last to a division contender as they sit in third place in the Central and trail the Blackhawks by just six points. It is a little deceiving though as the Avs were a good team last year that fell on hard times and couldn’t find any consistency in their game and landing the lottery for the right to draft first overall was a nice gift for the incoming management team of Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic. To me, Colorado is certainly a threat to win the West if they can acquire a couple pieces at the trade deadline and perhaps bring in a top four defenseman to bolster their blue line but all other aspects of their game are solid. There is no value here but I think the Avs dominate this game and take it by more than a goal and that’s what I’ll suggest if anything here.
