The Edmonton Oilers travel to the east coast to take on the New York Rangers on Thursday.
Things seem to be going well for Edmonton as Matt Hendrick's shorthanded tally in the third lifted them to a 3-2 victory at Buffalo on Monday. Jeff Petry opened the scoring just 32 ticks in to the game with his fourth while Justin Shultz erased a 2-1 Sabres lead with a second period score. Despite the final score the Edmonton defense allowed 44 shots to reach Bryzgalov and he was forced to weather six penalties/power plays from Buffalo who was 1-6 with the man advantage. The Oilers remain in a groove with victories in four of five when they face an equally hot Rangers club.

A hot Colorado faced a hot Rangers club on Tuesday and when the final horn sounded it was New York that came away with victory number four in a row. The Avalanche saw their winning streak end at four games with a lone second period goal off the stick of Gabriel Landeskog all the offense that could be mustered. Semyon Varlomov took the loss with 38 stops as the Avs fell to 6-2 in their past eight road contests. Ryan Callahan was the Rangers offensive star with a pair of goals and an assist with Derick Brassard, Brad Richards and Anton Stralman also finding the back of the net. The offensive burst made an easy winner of Henrik Lundquist who recorded 27 stops overall.
I would normally be behind the Rangers here except Edmonton has been playing well which is always a worry when sizable chalk is involved. Throw in the fact New York isn't anything special at home and there are concerns. I wouldn't play the chalk but if you like the Rangers perhaps a regulation play? I'll update by Thursday afternoon...
