The Line: Buffalo Sabres +114 / Carolina Hurricanes -126 --- Over/Under: 5 See the Latest Odds

With the Olympics over and the NHL finally back in action, the first game in over two weeks will be a meeting between the Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres. This is the second of three schedule meetings, as the Hurricanes won 5-3 back in late January.

Carolina has lost three of its last five games, and a lot of it has to do with not being able to put the puck into the net. In those three losses, the Hurricanes scored a combined two goals. They rank 21st in the league with an average of 2.5 goals per game. Still, goalie Anton Khudobin has been money as of late, allowing just seven goals in his last four starts. The Hurricanes are 11-10-4-0 on the road this season.

The Sabres have lost four in a row and six of their last seven games. Their struggles also come from a lack of scoring, as they haven’t scored more than three goals in five of their last seven games. They’re ranked last in the league with an average of 1.8 goals per game. The goaltending also hasn’t been up to par, as a combined 20 goals have been scored in the last five games. Buffalo is 9-17-3-2 on its home ice.

There’s really no reason to go against the Hurricanes in this game. While both teams have struggled putting goals on the board, Carolina at least has gotten great production from its goalie and has shown signs of life over the last week or so. We can’t say the same for Buffalo.

The Hurricanes are 5-1 in their last six games against a team with a losing record and has won the last four meetings against Buffalo.

At this price, it’s a steal backing Carolina.
