The Minnesota Wild take the ice with the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place to begin the second half of the season.
Minnesota and Edmonton meet for the second time this season with the Wild winning the first meeting 4-1 back in January. In that one Jason Pominville, Nate Prosser, Justin Fontaine and Jason Zucker each scored for Minnesota with Darcy Kuemper stopping 20 shots to pick up the victory. Jordan Eberle picked up the lone goal for the Oilers with Ben Scrivens absorbing the the defeat with four goals allowed on 33 shots.

Fast forward to the present and Minnesota was 11-4-2 to kick off 2014 with the Olympic break seemingly braking up the momentum. However, Mikko Koivu was nursing a fractured ankle and Jason Zucker was rehabbing an injured knee and could be back in a few days so the bottom line was thes players nursed injuries and didn't miss games. The bottom line is Minnesota is five points up for the top Wild Card spot and needed the time off more then the momentum.
Edmonton is heading in the opposite direction and what effect the Olympic break had probably is immaterial for a team that is buried in the standings. With 22 contests left Edmonton is 17 points out of the final postseason berth in the Western Conference and you don't have to be a mathematician to figure their predicament out. Expect to see the Oilers put some new faces on the ice or try different pairings to provide a spark for next season as players are already fighting for jobs.
Minnesota is 7-1 in their last eight visits to Edmonton and 38-14 in their last 52 meetings overall. Tough to go against such strong trends even though some top performers are still out but I am looking at the visitors...
