The Sharks look to continue their offensive outpour as they travel from Philly to play the Sabres in Buffalo on Friday night.

San Jose has often been a team considered a Stanley Cup favourite over the last decade but they are often considered a group that can’t get it done in big games and don’t have the wherewithal to make it to the Cup finals. While it might be as difficult a road as ever this season with the amount of quality teams in the Western Conference, you can’t look past this Sharks team as a contender as they certainly have played like it all season. San Jose sits in second place in the Pacific division and will certainly be amongst a handful of threats to win the Cup coming out of California but if there is one knock on the team it is their play away from home which sits at a modest 16-12-3. That isn’t to say that is a poor mark but compared to their mark at home it is and against a team like Buffalo who can’t seem to win at home or away I don’t think it poses an immediate threat to move down instead of up.

Buffalo Sabres vs. San Jose Sharks - 2/28/14

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

The Sabres have had an abysmal season and the tumultuous path will continue over the next week as it is all but certain that Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller will be suiting up for another team come trade deadline time. Buffalo does have a number of young pieces in place that will help ease the pain of a complete overhaul of the franchise but for the next couple of seasons things will be tough and might call for a couple of other youngsters wanting out of town. The Sabres are huge underdogs in this spot and rightfully so as we have one of the best going up against the league’s worst but this spot seems like a trap to me and while I am not sold on the Sabres getting a win but I do think it’ll be closer than people think. The Sharks put up seven on the Flyers last night and I think will be a little more conservative here especially against Buffalo who has already played two games since the Olympic break and Miller will be using his last few games in Buffalo as an audition.
