The Line: Colorado Avalanche -152 / Phoenix Coyotes +138 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Avs look to get back in the win column after a lackluster performance against the Kings on Wednesday night as they host the Coyotes in Denver.

Phoenix will be in tough playing in their second game in as many nights fresh off the Olympic break but with the NHL playoffs just around the corner and this being the final quarter of the season they have to start winning now if they want to secure a postseason berth. The Coyotes have been a team that has found playoff success in recent years without having the most lucrative roster but sometimes a great team can outperform great players and that is the mentality the Coyotes will have to instill once again. They have had a bit of a disappointing season considering many thought they would challenge for the divisional crown but thanks to a ridiculous season from the Ducks that pipedream is gone and now they have to focus on just getting in to the final eight. Thomas Greiss is likely to get the call here for the Coyotes after they played in Winnipeg against the Jets last night.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Phoenix Coyotes - 2/28/14

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

The Avalanche had a tough first outing back from the Olympic break despite playing on home ice as they hosted the Kings who despite sitting in a playoff spot have underachieved a bit and are looking to make their mark down the stretch. Colorado is loaded up front with game changers and while their season has been nice to watch I think they might be a year or two away from really competing and what they do at the trade deadline and in free agency will go a long way in determining whether they can challenge for the Cup for years to come. Colorado is a shoe in for the playoffs this season however and with the way they have played at times they could very well pull off a couple of series victories and land themselves in the Conference championship or even the Cup finals. I like Colorado to rebound here after a uncharacteristically sloppy game against LA and with a Phoenix team travelling and playing in a back to back I think the Avs are too much here.
