The Ducks and Penguins meet up in Anaheim in what could very well serve as a preview for the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Pittsburgh Penguins continue their California road trip on Friday night as they take on the Anaheim Ducks a night after squaring off against the San Jose Sharks, a game currently in Pittsburgh’s favour by a 2-0 mark in the second period. The Penguins are without question the class of the Eastern Conference and while teams like Boston and Montreal may say otherwise but the Pens have to be considered the favourite to represent the East in the Cup finals. The Pens are loaded offensively with the likes of Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal, Chris Kunitz, and Jussi Jokinen to name a few and while they are without Paul Martin and Kris Letang on the point for the foreseeable future they still have a complete team that can go up against anyone on any given night. Marc-Andre Fleury has been slighted for his playoff futility over the last couple of seasons but he has already backstopped his team to a Cup title and knows what it takes to be on top.

The Ducks have been the class of the league since the puck dropped in October but their grasp on the Western Conference perch is slipping fast as the red hot Blues are only two points back heading into action on Friday night. Anaheim made a couple of moves at the trade deadline as they sent Viktor Fasth and Dustin Penner packing but it was expected that because of the Penner move the Ducks would go after Vanek or Moulson to fill the void but to no avail. The Ducks certainly have a great team but I think adding a piece at the deadline would have put them in the conversation as a Cup favourite but instead I think they have slipped behind the likes of Chicago, St. Louis and even Los Angeles in the West and they could be hard pressed to win the President’s Trophy. While Anaheim has done everything this season to silence their skeptics I am still not sold on this team as a playoff contender despite having a solid roster that includes Olympic gold medallists Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry and with this value I’ll take the Penguins.
