The Blackhawks look to close the gap on the Blues in the Central division as they head to Buffalo to take on the lowly Sabres.
The Blackhawks were on top of the Central division standings since the puck dropped in October but a ridiculous surge from the St. Louis Blues and a bit of a speed bump from the Hawks has the teams switching places with the Blues now on top by a four point margin. Chicago will be hoping that a return home for superstar forward Patrick Kane will give the team a boost as they look to make quick work of the Sabres who currently hold the league’s worst mark. Chicago has to be considered a favourite to emerge out of the Western Conference once again as they have all the pieces still in place from last year’s squad with a few exceptions and while they didn’t do anything at the trade deadline perhaps that is the best move they could have made as they have found great success with this combination. The Hawks will be looking for their 38th win of the season while the Sabres will be looking to avoid losing their 37th game of the year.

The Sabres have been awful this season and their underachievements over the last couple of seasons has spelled the end for a number of long time faces including Darcy Regier, Ryan Miller, and Thomas Vanek and things don’t appear to be getting any better off the ice. On the ice however the Sabres can begin the massive rebuilding process as they acquired a ton of draft picks at the deadline and have some budding prospects in their system which can give some relief to Sabres fans that the team is in good hands moving forward whether they believe it or not. Buffalo will look to pull off a massive upset here over the high flying Blackhawks but unfortunately for them I don’t see this being a good result at all as the Hawks are upset with their play of late that has enabled the Blues to pass them and with Kane playing at home I think he will come to play and be a huge difference maker.
