For the second time in four days the New York Rangers will be in Raleigh, North Carolina to take on the Hurricanes. When these two teams met on Friday night it was a tale of night and day for the Rangers. New York trailed 1-0 into the third period and despite controlling play most of the game against the Hurricanes they were simply unable to get the puck behind Anton Khudobin. To New York's credit they didn't allow it to frustrate them and kept coming strong. Things looked bleak with the Rangers on the penalty kill and down a goal in the third but Rick Nash found the trailing Ryan McDonagh who beat Khudobin five-hole to even the game at 1-1. That tie score didn't last long because Carolina's Jeff Skinner drew a penalty shot and beat Henrik Lundqvist clean to regain the lead for the Canes. Nash then tied the game again for the Rangers before Carolina was penalized twice for delay of game and allowed New York to cash in for the eventual game winner. With the Rangers on the power play it was Martin St. Louis with a beautiful cross ice feed that Derek Stepan deposited top shelf to give New York the lead for good. New York would win the game 4-2 and followed it up with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday afternoon. Both teams looked slow and lethargic with the early daylight savings time start, but Lundqvist was sharp all game long and New York found a way to get an important two points. Carolina appeared all but dead before their last two games but after blowing it against the Rangers they essentially put themselves out of their misery with a 5-4 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday night. Carolina rallied from a three goal deficit with Nathan Gerbe and Alexander Semin scoring in the third period to complete the come back. Less than a minute later however it was ex-teammate Tuomo Ruutu scoring against his former club to lift the Devils to a victory. There are a lot of changes that need to be made in Carolina in the offseason and they could certainly use some more size in the lineup both up front and on the back end. If Khudobin continues to play well this team might be able to say that they've found their answer in goal but there's still no guarantee. Carolina was thoroughly outplayed against the Rangers on Friday night but found themselves in a position to win the game because of Khudobin's play. Tuesday night they're going to need a much stronger effort if they're going to come away with two points. Look for New York to keep their winning streak going and pick up another win in this one.
