The Jets look to get back in the win column on home ice on Wednesday night when they host the Vancouver Canucks who are coming off their biggest collapse of the season.
The Vancouver Canucks have been a Cup contender for the better part of a decade and even after making a coaching change in the offseason after three straight early exits from the playoffs the expectations were still high. However, things have gone from bad to worse for Mike Gillis’ club and Monday night’s effort against the New York Islanders may have been the final straw for a visibly frustrated fan base. The Canucks held a 3-0 lead into the third period before allowing the Isles to put up seven goals in the final frame to take the game by a 7-4 final which has been described by many pundits as the game that ended the season for Vancouver. It was a deflating result for a team that was itching to get back in the win column but after a loss like that it is surely tough to rebound which is exactly what they’ll have to do against the Jets.

Winnipeg has been a bit of a disappointment as well this season after many predicted this would be the year for the return of playoff hockey in the city who has been starved since the team bolted for Phoenix. These two teams are currently tied for the 10th spot in the Western Conference and sit six points back of the eighth and final slot but are currently heading in opposite directions as the Jets are starting to find their form while the Canucks as mentioned are a complete disaster at the moment. Eddie Lack will look to make amends for his disappointing third period on Monday but will be in tough against a Jets team who is pretty well balanced up front and has some contributors on the blue line who can be a difference maker on any night. While I am not sold on Ondrej Pavelec as an every night option between the pipes I think he gives the Jets the edge here in what is a respectable price for Winnipeg on home ice.
