The Oilers look to shake off a disappointing effort in St. Louis last night as they continue their road trip in the Motor City on Friday against the Red Wings.
The Oilers have been playing their best hockey of late and until their trip last night into St. Louis it looked as though they were going to play their way out of the Western Conference basement. However, a humbling result against the league’s best team as the Oil looking to regroup in a hurry as they continue their road trip against a former Western Conference rival in Detroit. The Oilers have been a doormat since the 2007 season but they always seem to find a way to compete against Detroit and even though the Wings have since moved over to the Eastern Conference there is still some history among the players in this game and I think Edmonton will turn things around. Ben Scrivens got the nod against the Blues last night and while he didn’t have much help I think the Oilers will go with Viktor Fasth in this one as they get their goaltending situation figured out for next year.

The Red Wings have been a disappointment this season as many expected Detroit to challenge for top spot in the Eastern Conference but a slew of injuries and an again roster has the Wings fighting just to make the postseason. The Wings have lost back to back games and are two points behind the Flyers for the last spot in the Conference and with 17 games remaining on Detroit’s schedule they know they have to turn things around in a hurry or they’ll break stride in their historic 22 year playoff streak. Jimmy Howard has been decent for the Wings between the pipes but hasn’t had the same ability to steal a game or two here and there like we have seen in years past and part of that could be the team in front of him but if there is any coach who will get their team ready for a playoff push it is Mike Babcock. The Oilers are playing in a back to back after last night’s loss in St. Louis and while I think they should be given more love than this based on their history with Detroit I think the Wings are desperate and that will shine through in a must win game.
