The Verizon Center and the Washington Capitals host the Vancouver Canucks on Friday.
Facing Pittsburgh has never been a good time for Washington and a home and home series with the Pens was troublle waiting to happen. That's how it turned out with 2-0 loss at Pittsburgh giving the home team a sweep and win number eight in a row over the Capitals. Sidney Crosby and Jussi Jokinen tallied for the Penguins with Marc-Andre Fleury stopping 28 shots for his 5th shutout of the year. Jaroslav Halak recorded 32 saves in defeat as the Caps fell for the fifth time in six contests.

Vancouver knocked off Winnipeg 3-2 in a shootout to put an end to their road woes where they had dropped seven straight. Chris Higgins was the offensive hero with his shootout tally but the Canucks would never had a chance were it not for Alexandre Burrows scoring twice in regulation. Eddie Lack picked up the decision with a 32 save performance while stoning three Jets in the shootout. Winnipeg received goals from Michael Frolik and Andrew Ladd with Ondrej Pavelec posting 31 stops. The once hot Jets have been stumbling of late with their fifth consecutive defeat.
Vancouver has done well in this match up, going 4-0 in the last four and 4-1 in the past five trips to Washington while the home team is 4-1 in the last five. It seems like Washington has their hands full although this isn't the samme Canucks squad we've known over the years. I'll think on it while waiting for goalies so please check back...
