The Detroit Red Wings visit the United Center to tangle with the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday.
The Red Wings had lost four of their last five with visiting Edmonton coming to town so a win was really needed with a trip to Chicago on deck. Detroit got it but it wasn't easy in a 2-1 shootout decision on Friday with Thomas Tater's third round tally doing the trick. Riley Sheahan gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the opening frame until Edmonton tied it at the 8:43 mark of the third when Ryan Smythe lit the lamp. Jimmy Howard picked up the win with 21 saves while Viktor Fasth recorded 22 stops for the Oilers.

Chicago has been a beast at home throughout the 2013-14 campaign but not perfect as Nashville proved Friday in a 3-2 victory. Jonathan Toews and Peter Regin provided the Blackhawks offense with Corey Crawford absorbing the defeat on 29 shots. The Predators Patric Hornqvist and Mike Fisher each tallied in the opening frame with Ryan Ellis scoring the game winner in the third with Roman Josi recording assists on each. The victory went to Pekka Rinne who posted 31 saves to put an end to an 0-3 streak at the United Center.
