The Jets head into St. Louis looking to keep their playoff hopes intact while the home team looks to retain the Western Conference lead.

The Jets will look to close the gap on the final playoff spot in the Western Conference on Monday as they head into St. Louis to take on the Blues less than 24 hours after arguably their biggest victory of the season. The Jets hosted the eighth seeded Stars at the MTS Centre on Sunday and absolutely pasted them to the tune of a 7-2 final that displayed just how well this team can play if they have the right mindset. Winnipeg has been considered a dark horse team over the last two seasons but so far that potential hasn’t resulted in on ice results and they have yet to make the postseason. Winnipeg has a tall order in front of them as the Blues are arguably the best team in hockey and would love to hold on to the top spot in the league standings with a victory at home over the Jets. Al Montoya gets the nod in goal for Winnipeg as he goes up against Ryan Miller.

St. Louis Blues vs. Winnipeg Jets - 3/17/14

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Blues head into action on Monday against Winnipeg sitting atop the league standings with 99 points and are certainly a favourite to not only win the highly competitive Western Conference but to win the Stanley Cup as well. St. Louis is a team that is built like a machine and the addition of Ryan Miller between the pipes who is a top five goaltender makes them even more of a threat and they are definitely a team people will fear come playoff time. The Blues are led by a young but solid defensive unit and have a balanced scoring attack that makes them very difficult to play against and again the presence of Miller gives the team even more confidence and allows them to take more risks in the offensive zone. St. Louis are massive favourites here for good reason and I do think they will come away with two points here but I actually prefer when the Jets start Montoya as opposed to Ondrej Pavelec and as such I think this game stays well under the number.
