NHL Hockey: Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 10:00 pm (Rexall Place)

The Line: Edmonton Oilers -136 / Calgary Flames +124 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Oilers look to pull within two points of the Flames with a win on Saturday night against heir provincial rivals and escape the Western Conference basement.

The Calgary Flames have had a tough season but heading into the campaign it was consensual that the team was going to have its struggles as they go through a complete rebuild and I think they’re doing it the right way. Despite their subpar record the Flames have been very competitive all season long and never seem to get blown out in games but a loss last night on home ice against the Predators can’t be good for team confidence. The Flames take to the road to face off against their hated rivals who are in the midst of another embarrassing campaign but they too are on the right track to finally ending their rebuild and moving back towards respectability. Karri Ramo Is slated to get the start for the Flames as he will go up against Viktor Fasth for the Oilers.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames - 3/22/14

Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports

Edmonton is enduring another painful season which seems to be a recurring theme in the City of Champions as their massive overhaul with a handful of top end picks has yet to result in a winning season or a playoff berth. Edmonton fans are quickly losing their patience but management finally looks to be making the strides necessary to get the Oilers back into the postseason and finally live up to the potential this roster has but another top draft pick is on the horizon. The Oilers have been playing a lot better of late but that could very well be contextual as they packed it in already and have nothing more to lose but it is still nice to see them try and close out the regular season with some confidence. While the Oilers are favoured too much here for my liking I do think they get it done as the Flames played last night and Edmonton has the advantage in goal and up front. Take Edmonton.
