After a dizzying afternoon and evening of NHL hockey yesterday, we’ll be getting another pretty sizable dose today, with seven matchups on the upcoming schedule. Before we wait for those pucks to drop, let’s take our daily journey around the NHL and see which players are making headlines today.

Scott Hartnell, LW, Philadelphia Flyers: The Flyers utilized a team effort to take care of business against the Blues yesterday in one of the early afternoon games. Hartnell was a big contributor, posting a goal and an assist in the 4-1 victory. Jakub Voracek (goal; assist) and Steve Mason (32 saves) also played big parts.
That’s five in a row for the Flyers, who have scored 15 goals in four games this past week. They’ll host L.A. tomorrow, then head to New York (Rangers) Wednesday and host Toronto on Friday.

Evgeni Malkin, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: Malkin was all over the place against the Lightning yesterday, propelling Pittsburgh to a big win. He managed two goals and two assists in the 4-3 overtime victory, giving him four scores in just the past two games. Sidney Crosby also contributed heavily with a goal and two helpers.
The Pens are 2-1 in their past three games, so we’ll see if they can keep the run going this week. They host the Blues today, Phoenix on Tuesday, L.A. Thursday and visit Columbus Friday.

Brendan Smith, D, Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings’ victory yesterday was a real team effort, but we’ll focus on Smith for the time being. He posted a goal and an assist in Detroit’s 3-2 victory, giving him four scores and 13 helpers on the year. David Legwand managed a goal and an assist as well, while Jimmy Howard notched 28 saves.
That makes three straight wins for the Wings. They will try for four at home against the Wild today. This week, it’s at Columbus (Tuesday), against Montreal (Thursday) and Saturday at Toronto.

Curtis Glencross, LW, Calgary Flames: If you like offense--and the Flames--this was the game for you. Calgary took care of their rival Edmonton last night, thanks in large part to Glencross. He posted a hat trick in the 8-1 beat down, which gives him 10 scores on the year. Matt Stajan (goal; three assists) and Mike Cammalleri (goal; two assists) also deserve mention for their efforts.
That wraps up a three-game week for the flames, who have another three-game set ahead. They’ll start things out tomorrow against San Jose, then host Anaheim Wednesday and the Rangers on Friday.

NHL Daily Schedule: 14 teams will be out there on the ice today, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find a good matchup or two. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each game.
