The Line: Edmonton Oilers +169 / San Jose Sharks -186 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Sharks look to salvage an Alberta split as they head into Edmonton on Tuesday night less than 24 hours after dropping a shootout contest to the Calgary Flames.

San Jose has been one of the best teams in the league all season long and their quest to claim the President’s Trophy is still on the table though is fading with each passing victory by the St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins. The Sharks currently hold onto the second seed in the Western Conference by virtue of leading the Pacific division but have the Ducks right in the rear view and the Blackhawks not foo far behind. San Jose is often criticized for their lack of playoff execution but this year season looks as good as any for them to exorcise their postseason demons as the Western Conference is incredibly tight and it seems like a handful of teams could prevail as the representative in the Stanley Cup finals. San Jose must be disappointed after they failed to record both points against a Flames team who sits to their inferior by 35 points but they get a shot at redemption here against the Oilers.

Edmonton Oilers vs. San Jose Sharks - 3/25/14

Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

Edmonton has had some very disappointing games over the last seven seasons with a particular emphasis on the last two campaigns but their contest against their rivals from Calgary on Saturday night has to take the cake. The Oilers dropped an 8-1 decision on home ice to their hated provincial counterparts in front of an obviously frustrated crowd at Rexall Place who continued their new pastime of throwing their team jerseys onto the ice in protest. While everyone in the organization from the owners on down to the ushers apologized for the team’s effort on Saturday night it still comes with a sharp sting as a team that showed so much promise in the early going has fallen flat once again. Edmonton are huge underdogs on home ice here and for good reason as the Sharks are a very good team and the Oilers for a lack of a better comparison are not but to me this line is a little out of whack. Edmonton plays really well against San Jose most of the time and with San Jose’s backup in Alex Stalock likely getting the nod I can see this game being closer than expected.
