The Los Angeles Kings head into DC on Tuesday night completing a back to back with a chance at sweeping the Flyers and Capitals.

The Kings are starting to roll at the right moment as they head into Tuesday night’s matchup with the Capitals as winners of three in a row and seven of their last 10 as they continue to try and track down the Avalanche for fifth spot in the Conference. Los Angeles went into hostile territory last night as Jeff Carter and Mike Richards made their returns to Philly and skated away with two huge points that sent the Flyers to a devastating loss that has impacted their playoff seeding. Los Angeles could very well be the best sixth ranked team in league history as they could very well win the Stanley Cup with the roster they possess but thanks to a stacked Western Conference and some ridiculous regular season efforts the Kings are in the bottom half of the Conference’s playoff bracket. LA goes for their fourth in a row against Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.

Washington Capitals vs. Los Angeles Kings - 3/25/14

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Washington is clinging on for dear life in the Eastern Conference in what is considered a disappointing campaign overall for them but if they can grab one of their two final spots it would go a long way in vindicating their tough year. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom have played very well once again at least in the offensive zone as they rank near the top in point production in the Eastern Conference with Ovie leading the league once again in goals scored but it is their blue line that is a major cause for concern. Washington will be in tough if they can sneak into the playoffs as it is likely they will matchup against either Boston or Pittsburgh which is an absolute nightmare either way but if they finish the season strong and can grab the six seed it would put them in a much better position. Despite Los Angeles being the much better and deeper team in my opinion I do think the Caps are worth a look here as they are the more desperate team and while LA would love to move up a couple of spots I think they have come to grips with securing the sixth seed and thriving in the underdog role. Add in the fact that the Kings played last night and I think this is a decent spot for the home team.
