The Sabres look to continue their improved play on Thursday night as they head to Nashville to take on Pekka Rinne and the Predators.
The Sabres have started to play with a little more zip in their intensity and effort but it still hasn’t made a difference as they have lost nine of their last 10 contests and still sit comfortably in the league basement. Expectations have been high in Buffalo over the last few seasons but with nothing to show for it but a couple of departures both on and off the ice it is safe to say they have been one of the league’s biggest flops in that span. Buffalo is in line for some retooling over the next few seasons so the fan base will have to be patient but with the first overall pick in this year’s draft almost a certainty the Sabres will receive some immediate help in the form of Sam Reinhart or Aaron Ekblad. As for the rest of this season though they are in heaps of trouble and have to take on one of the game’s best goaltenders on the road this evening.

The Predators have had a pretty steep fall from grace as well over the last couple of years as they were a Western Conference power just a couple of seasons ago but certainly are nowhere near that claim at the moment. The Preds lucked out and landed Seth Jones with the fourth overall pick last season and it is clear that he will become a franchise defenseman with time and alongside Shea Weber they may not be a better role model for the youngster to shape his game after but again all of this will take time. Having Pekka Rinne back has been huge for Nashville as the Finnish national who missed most of the season as well as the Olympics in Sochi is one of the better goalies in the league and gives the team much more confidence. Nashville are heavy favourites here but I don’t see a way how the Sabres do enough to beat Rinne and I think the Preds get a nice win on home ice tonight.
